The 'awe-some' spectacle of St Stephen's at the heart of the great conflagration was most famously captured by the artist J.M.W. Turner, but several stage representations and dioramas (a kind of nineteenth-century virtual reality show) of this perspective were advertised in the newspapers.

This depiction by William Greive, a designer at Covent Garden Theatre, may well have been based on a theatrical set, or intended as a design for one.
